Calm Before the Storm

Image
We've made it to April and things are relatively calm for another month and then we'll be busy, busy, busy!!!  Invoices have been sent for the McQueeney retreat and are about to go out for the June Stitchin' Heaven retreat.  Don't forget, Mom is teaching at TWO upcoming Steampunk Fairytale retreats, one at Fox Country Quilts and one at Stitchin' Heaven !  Don't miss out on those! The end of May, Mom and I are going to be unreachable for a week as we set sail on the Stitchin' Heaven Patriot Cruise with The Combat Quilter and The Quilting Marine!  We're going as students and are looking forward to a week of quilting and relaxation.  We'll see how Mom does, she currently doesn't like any quilting that doesn't involve FPP.  We'll be sure to share pictures of our adventures!   Three days after we get home, we're heading down to McQueeney for a Technique of the Month Retreat.  We're looking forward to heading down to the hill country a

February Already???

Image
Hey, y'all!  We hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season and start to their new year! I can't believe it's already February, even though January felt like it lasted forever!  I'd like to make a quick little post to let y'all know where Tina is going to be this year!  We have a lot of stuff planned and are looking forward to a great 2024!!! You all know that Tina and I started Friends of Judy Retreats with Sandra, and Sandra has now retired from being a CI.  We will certainly miss her at our retreats, but are happy that she still plans to visit us when we're in Quitman!  This year, we have two of our original retreats scheduled at Stitchin' Heaven in Quitman, TX.  We will be holding those events on June 26-30 and November 13-17 .  We are also headed to McQueeney June 5-9 to host a Technique of the Month retreat.  We're looking forward to heading down towards South Texas for that one!   Tina is going to be teaching at a few Stitchin' Heaven r

Retreat Recap: May 2023

Another retreat in the books and it was a blast!  We got to see old friends and make new ones, we got a lot of sewing done and even more chatting and having fun!   We had a total of 22 quilters (including Tina, Sandra and me) this month and saw some awesome quilts being made.   I can't wait to see everyone again in a couple months at our July retreat!  Be on the lookout for some of our new recipes to be posted on the blog in the next few weeks! Happy Quilting, Y'all! ~Krista

Final Countdown to May 2023!

It's almost here!  Our May Retreat is less than three weeks away!  We can't wait to see all of our friends in Quitman!  We are busy getting the menu finalized, doing behind-the-scenes magic, and getting our own projects together.   If you were at our first retreat last May, you might remember my ADHD kicking in and my sewing space filled with three different projects.  I had planned on making my first Quiltworx project, a tablerunner. I got two blocks done, then started down a rabbit-trail that included half-square triangles and a shopping trip at Stitchin' Heaven for matching fabrics.  Then I distracted from that by my EPP project, a quilt with Tula Pink Elizabeth hexies.   This year, I hope to stay focused on one quilt, Goodnight Stars.  I have my fabric picked and just need to go shopping.  I'm really excited about this one, it's going to be my first BIG quilt, as I've only done lap quilts and baby quilts before.  I do have a deadline for this one, so if you

Congrats, Tina!!!

Last month, something pretty exciting happened for one of our fearless leaders!  Tina officially became a Quiltworx Certified Instructor!!!   This is something that Tina has had her heart set on for a while now and we are so happy for her!  Be on the lookout for future classes that she will be teaching!  But in the meantime, check out her profile on the Quiltworx website!

Retreat Recipes: All the Soups!

Image
Now that the Christmas season is behind us, we are looking at two of the coldest months of the year, January and February.  What is better on a cold evening than curling up with a warm bowl of a hearty soup?  Not much!  At our last retreat, when the cold was just starting to tease us here in Texas, we kicked off the weekend with three delicious soups.   The first of the three was a Creamy Apple Butternut Squash soup that is sure to warm you right up! It's served with Crema Mexicana cream, adding a touch of something extra to the already yummy soup. The recipe is from The Suburban Soapbox and she has nailed this one!  It was a huge hit and I believe we didn't have much left over of this one. The other two recipes came from the same blog, Eating on a Dime.  I love this blog, they have a lot of great recipes that are pocketbook-friendly.  My personal favorite from our soup night was the Easy CrockPot Potato Soup .  I'm a sucker for potato soup and this one was a huge hit!

Retreat Recipes - Deviled Egg Pasta Salad

Image
One of the dishes that has been a hit at our retreats has been the Deviled Egg Pasta Salad.  As someone who loves both deviled eggs and pasta salads, this is one of my favorites!  It's great as a side dish with a chicken salad sandwich, like we serve at retreat. Like many of our recipes, this one was found on Pinterest and we cannot take credit for it ourselves.  You can find the recipe at Barefeet in the Kitchen .   Happy Cooking, Friends! ~Krista
